Christy Peters, DVM

Christy Peters, DVM

Dr. Christy Peters is a native of New Gloucester, Maine and spent her childhood dreaming of becoming a veterinarian. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine, where she graduated summa cum laude, and then went on to attend the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine where she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.

After returning to her home state and spending a few years practicing general veterinary medicine, Dr. Peters found her calling in emergency medicine. Her special interests include neonatal medicine, ultrasonography and emergency surgery.

She spends her free time camping, fly fishing, and kayaking with her husband, Travis, their young daughter, Aspen, and whatever exotic creature she decides to bring home for the day. Dr. Peters truly has a passion for emergency veterinary medicine and loves living her dream.

 Kellie Wedge, DVM

Kellie Wedge, DVM

Dr. Kellie Wedge, a native of Rockport, Maine, brings an extensive background in emergency medicine and surgery to the MAEC team. Dr. Wedge started her career as veterinary technician and worked as a surgical technician for over 7 years.

In 2005, she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Wedge then completed and received a certificate of internship in small animal medicine in surgery in 2006 from the Center of Specialized Veterinary Care in Long Island, New York. She then moved to Seattle, Washington and worked for 6 years at a 24 hour emergency facility performing emergency and critical care procedures. In 2012, she returned to midcoast Maine and worked as a general practitioner at Boothbay Animal Hospital.

She was involved in the founding of Midcoast Animal Emergency Clinic in 2015 and her love of emergency medicine enabled her to fulfill a full time position here.

Jennifer Mirecki, DVM

Jennifer Mirecki, DVM

Dr. Jen Mirecki grew up in Windham, ME but spent the very early part of her childhood in rural Vermont, where most of her friends were the neighborhood dogs, next door neighbor's horse and a few llamas down the road. She decided that veterinary medicine would be her path at an early age. Dr. Mirecki earned her Bachelor's in Animal and Veterinary Sciences from the University of Maine and continued her education at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine where she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She spent the first few years of her career in a mixed animal veterinary practice which was a hybrid of general practice and emergency on-call practice for all animal species. She found that her greatest professional satisfaction came from treating emergent patients and elected to pursue a career in emergency veterinary medicine. Dr. Mirecki originally joined the Midcoast Animal Emergency Clinic team in February 2017. She left for a few years to explore other career goals but realized her true passion is emergency medicine and rejoined the Midcoast team in September 2021 as a full-time emergency veterinarian and Medical Director.

Dr. Mirecki's interests include trauma medicine, laceration and wound repair and emergency surgery. She currently lives in central Maine with her husband Kevin, two dogs, three goats, a tortoise and a few barn cats. In her spare time she enjoys walking the dogs in the woods, gardening and relaxing.

Dr. Katie Spoo

Katie Spoo, DVM

Dr Katie Spoo is an Illinois native who chose to leave the cornfields of the Midwest for the salty sea air of Midcoast Maine 2 years ago. She completed her undergraduate studies at Eastern Illinois University (Go Panthers!) and, after taking a year off to complete an internship at the Indianapolis Zoo, earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Illinois. After 14 years in General Practice, she made the transition to Emergency Medicine last year. Dr Spoo has special interest in ultrasound and wound management, but she also enjoys seeing some more exotic patients. While her favorite animal is the walrus, her favorite patients are reptilian! Dr Spoo considers herself a devoted Anglophile and Mudlark. When not at work or traveling, she is either building LEGO, scouring the internet for the best cat toys, cheering on her favorite hockey team, or training jiujitsu.
