Lost Pets

If you have lost a pet, you should contact your municipal animal control officer as well as the two nearest animal shelters. If your pet is microchipped, contact the microchip company to report your pet lost. Other effective ways of spreading the word about your lost pet include placing an ad in the newspaper and posting flyers.

Found Pets

If you find a dog, contact your municipal animal control officer. It is Maine State law that the dog be taken to an animal shelter to be held for six days to allow the owner the ability to claim their pet. Cats and kittens should also be taken to the shelter or a description left so that they can be reunited with their owners.
